Hailing from the Hawkeye State, Joel DeJaynes always wanted to be a Cyclone. His early childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian came true in 2008 when he graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. DeJaynes has had a varied career and has done almost everything you can do as a small animal veterinarian. Not really … but almost.
Following graduation, Dr. DeJaynes practiced as an associate veterinarian before completing two internships in order to further advance his skills and knowledge. Following his surgical internship, Dr. DeJaynes worked overnights at a busy emergency hospital before taking a leap and buying his own small animal practice in Wisconsin in 2014. He successfully ran the clinic with his wife, also a veterinarian, before selling and moving back to Iowa in 2019. Dr. DeJaynes currently serves as an associate veterinarian at University West Pet Clinic and Starch Pet Hospital in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. His professional interests lie in surgery, dentistry, and leadership.
Outside of work, Dr. DeJaynes enjoys spending as much time as he can with his wife and two small children.
